If football players could pitch, could most NFL quarterbacks be great MLB pitchers too? Both sports involve throwing, and quarterbacks and pitchers use the same muscles to make a pitch. Here are five ways NFL quarterbacks could become great pitchers. I’ve written about Tom House in my previous article, and he’s definitely worth a look! Read on to learn more! But first, let’s take a look at his mechanics.
Having coached two of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history, Tom House is a whiz at predicting and analyzing the game’s movement. The man has become a staple in the rotational sports world, and he refers to himself as “the Forrest Gump of sports.” Born in Seattle, House and his family relocated to La Puente, California, in the late 1960s. This town was transforming into an industrial hub that led into Los Angeles.
The lessons House teaches high school baseball players translate to the NFL. Whether it’s Brady, Palmer, Drew Brees, or Alex Smith, House teaches the same lessons. This is not to say that all NFL quarterbacks are likely to become great baseball pitchers, but they’re a good start. House has worked with the quarterbacks of many NFL teams and has developed a program to help these athletes get the most out of their game.
If most NFL quarterbacks could throw the ball in baseball, they’d have a much more consistent arm motion. Pitchers, on the other hand, have the luxury of time to process information while pitching. In contrast, quarterbacks have to process a large volume of information quickly. A baseball pitcher can take up to three times as long to throw a baseball, whereas a football quarterback needs half a second to plant his front foot and shift his weight before throwing.
Tom House’s mechanics
Many baseball fans are confused about the differences between baseball and football, but what’s the connection between the two? House is a former pitcher who has studied both baseball and football for decades. While he grew up in a baseball-oriented neighborhood, his parents were not interested in sports, although they later realized that his left-handed curveball could help him at the ballpark. His parents valued grades over sports and instilled in their sons a strong work ethic and dedication.
Tom House has a history of working with top athletes and has worked with top teams since the 1970s. He has been studying and applying biomechanics and video analysis to help athletes improve their throwing mechanics. His clients have included Hall-of-Famers, future Hall-of-Famers, and more. If you’d like to learn the secrets of pitching, here’s what you need to know.
In 1984, House signed with the Texas Rangers after a disastrous 92-loss season. Clyde King, his manager, was in the same position as House. The two men had discussed the importance of having a pitching coach, and House was soon the perfect fit. The Rangers’ scouting department was lacking, but he was quickly hired and became the team’s minor-league pitching coach.
Tom House’s arm action
There are some things you should know about Tom House’s arm actions as a MLB pitcher. First, he’s a good coach. He had experience in Japan as a coach and is a Ph.D in performance psychology. Second, House isn’t part of the “old boys” network. The game is changing and he can’t recreate his image. If you don’t know much about baseball, consider these tips.
One of the things you need to know about Tom House’s arm action is his teaching style. He taught Reid Ryan to move differently than his father did. But his teachings are often far from factual. One of the examples he uses is that the glove should stop in front of the front foot, which is incorrect for an elite pitcher. This is not only a poor technique, but it makes him appear cocky and unprofessional.
After a long career in baseball, House was sold to the Mariners in 1978. His pitching career ended with that season, but he continued to work with baseball, becoming an instructor for the Astros and Padres. He then earned his PhD in sports psychology and returned to the majors as Bobby Valentine’s pitching coach for the Rangers. He also learned to use footballs during batting practice in Texas.
You may have already heard of Cassel, the Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback. But if you don’t know who he is, he also played first base in the 1994 Little League World Series. The team he played for won its West region but lost in the championship game. Matt Cassel could be an excellent MLB pitcher, and his brother Jack plays the game professionally. But before you start thinking about becoming an MLB pitcher, it’s important to understand how Cassel got into the NFL.
Cassel’s father, Jack, played baseball in the major leagues and was a part of the Little League World Series in 1994. The family of several players was displaced due to the quake, so he missed the game. Later, he coached his brother, Ryan, in Little League. But before he began his career in the NFL, Cassel had a brief stint in baseball.
Despite his youth, Matt Cassel is showing all the signs of being a great baseball player. He started working out before school, lost 30 pounds and gained strength and stamina. He resembles former Encino Crespi pitcher Jeff Suppan, which may help him in the future. His body frame is similar to that of Jeff Suppan, and his arm motion is similar. Justin Savage’s older brother, Justin Savage, has a similar arm motion to him. Justin Savage learned the importance of staying under control and calm in difficult situations.
A baseball player may be able to turn his hand to other sports – and that’s the case with Tom Brady. Though he was drafted by the Montreal Expos, he turned down the chance to play professional baseball and choose to play college football. His swing is strong, and Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez even threw him a batting practice pitch. If you’re a baseball fan, Tom Brady could be a great MLB pitcher.
The New England Patriots quarterback is an avid baseball fan, and in high school, he reportedly swung a wooden bat and hit a home run. He also once gave his high school baseball coach, Pete Jensen, a pep talk, after a football loss. The coach told Brady that he was the most talented of the two, and questioned Brady’s decision to put football first.
Baseball scouts noticed Brady’s talent early on, and baseball teams were willing to pay him more than the average 18th-round draft pick. Nevertheless, Brady chose football over baseball, and he is now a star quarterback in the NFL. So if you love baseball, but you’re not sure about your arm strength, you could try pitching to him. While it may be a little bit of a stretch, Brady could easily be a great MLB pitcher.
There are several factors to consider when deciding on a top ten QB, but we will focus on the ones with the most recent success. While the average WAR per season has increased, it is still low, and we will have to consider how good the other nine are as well. In this article, we will cover Wilson, Mahomes, Wentz, Stafford, and Mahomes in order to make our final ranking.
In a league full of superstar quarterbacks, Josh Allen is a relatively unknown quantity. Though he is 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, he is among the NFL’s elite passers and has a good running game. If his performance this year is any indication, he should make the AFC Championship game for the second time and perhaps even the third. That said, Allen is already ahead of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.
Josh Allen was one of the best throws of the 2018 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, delivering a 75-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Robert Foster. Despite being sandwiched by two pass rushers, Allen showed signs of being a legitimate pocket quarterback. In spite of his inconsistent rookie season, Allen showed promise in 2018.
The Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert is also an elite passer. Both Allen and Herbert are among the top quarterback prospects in the NFL. He has the ability to run and throw, but his natural passer ability is far better. The future of the NFL quarterback position is bright for this generation of quarterbacks. If he can repeat his 2015 performance, he’ll be one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league.
However, his ability to process plays quickly was a concern for voters. Some questioned his ability to distinguish coverages and protections while others questioned his ability to process mike points. While many voted for Allen, they still have some work to do. Allen’s shaky play against Pittsburgh last year has worried some defensive coaches. Despite these concerns, the Lions have a good core of wide receivers, including Amari Williams, Gallup, and Lamb.
A former college teammate of Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow is among the current top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL. His consistency and accuracy helped him earn a No. 1 overall pick. His ability to be calm under pressure is an excellent trait, and he is willing to take punishment in the pocket. But he was hampered by his offensive line, which led to a mediocre season.
Regardless of who you believe is the best quarterback in the league, you can’t argue that Patrick Mahomes is not one of the best. The current top 10 quarterbacks were voted on by NFL coaches, executives, and players. Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but there are plenty of other good quarterbacks on the list, as well.
The Chiefs have only had one losing season this season. But in his first two games, Patrick Mahomes has thrown four touchdowns and thrown six interceptions. Nevertheless, Mahomes has thrown five straight 400-yard games, which is tied with the NFL’s Peyton Manning and Joe Montana. His performance against the Chargers in Week 15 was his best, and he surpassed Manning’s seven-game streak.
During the regular season, Mahomes finished with 4,839 yards of total offense, 37 touchdowns, and thirteen interceptions. His 98.5 quarterback rating led to a 12-5 record and a sixth consecutive AFC West title. He ranked among the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL in terms of fan support heading into the 2022 postseason. And while the Chiefs haven’t won a Super Bowl in a while, they have won the AFC West title each year since Mahomes was drafted.
As a physical talent, Mahomes is a rare breed. The term “sneaky athletic” typically pertains to quarterbacks with less melanin. Mahomes has an unusual ability to evade defenders and is a hard target on the move. His 40-yard dash time is one of the fastest in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs have a good WR core to go along with his exceptional athleticism.
Andrew Luck is another player who can be considered a top 10 quarterback. He has won the ESPY award for the best player in the NFL and is one of three FedEx Air Player of the Year nominees. He was also named AFC Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2018, and was the league’s most effective passer against the Chargers on November 9.
The only real knock on Mahomes is that he hasn’t been a consistent starter for the Patriots. He’s a prototype under center, and he needs more time to prove his worth. In the meantime, he’s a top 10 quarterback, and he has the talent and the grit to become a perennial top-10. The question is: can he stay healthy?
ESPN surveyed 50 coaches, scouts, and executives to determine who is the best quarterback. Mahomes was ranked second, behind Aaron Rodgers, and he has continued to have a stellar season as a Chiefs signal-caller. It’s hard to say which of these quarterbacks is better, but it’s clear that he’s one of the most promising in the NFL today.
Wentz is a seismic upgrade over the previous Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Taylor Heinicke. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound quarterback throws the deep ball with ease, and his arm is a cannon. Last year, Wentz ranked as one of the NFL’s top deep-ball passers. While he is not yet a perennial top-ten passer, his impressive play has earned him a spot in the NFL’s top 10.
While Wentz is no Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, or Lamar Jackson, the quarterback from Philadelphia is still an elite talent. His competition includes Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson, all of whom are on the north side of 40. While Wentz may not be able to compete with these elite quarterbacks, he is certainly a worthy candidate for the top five. Wentz is also ahead of players such as Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, and Philip Rivers, who are already established starters in their respective teams.
Wentz has had a roller coaster career. In Philadelphia, he was an MVP candidate when he was injured. After a year and a half in Philadelphia, he went on to watch Nick Foles win the Super Bowl. Then, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts and began a new chapter. Wentz wasn’t a stat-board-lighting quarterback this season, but his numbers were still elite. In addition, he came within one game of leading his team into the playoffs. However, in the final game, he crashed against a paltry Jacksonville team. In addition to being a top-10 quarterback right now, Wentz could still fall into the back of the list next year.
In addition to Wentz, the aforementioned two quarterbacks all have outstanding WR cores. However, Wentz is the most impressive of the two and should be in the top three of the NFL rankings. If he continues to improve his accuracy and develop his overall game, he should be able to stay at the top of the rankings. But for now, he’ll have to do so while his teammates improve.
